Profiles: Julie Pointer

March 21, 2011

Last week I did a post on the home of my friend Julie. Here is an addendum focusing on her design prowess and current project. Julie refers to her scope of work as environmental/experiential design, but from the looks of it – hand-crafting items for the home such as desks, benches, flatware, tools and upholstery work – we can say it’s somewhere in the realm of hospitality design. With a penchant for a clean aesthetic and a culling of hardwoods from the vast Pacific NW forests, her project is literally bringing the outdoors in. Julie defines the overarching theme as an “exploration of connecting people to their places.”
Be sure to visit her project’s tumblr page, Take Root, for a full background on her thesis.

I’ve found it exciting to follow Julie’s project, not only from her website but also from the perspective of her friend.
